To guide and promote the conservation and management of wildlife resources throughout North Carolina.
NCTWS has a mentoring program to serve as a developmental tool for students in Fisheries and Wildlife. This program will allow students to coordinate with professionals working in the field of fisheries or wildlife and gain insight into careers and pathways that may be in their future. Contact Donna MacLennan for more details.
In October 2007, the USFWS published the Final Rule changing the regulations governing handling of birds trapped in buildings. The change allows removal of migratory birds (other than federally listed threatened or endangered species, bald eagles, and golden eagles) from inside buildings in which the birds may pose a threat to themselves, to public health and safety, or to commercial interests - without a Federal permit. This should simplify handling of such problems by the public and limit harm to trapped birds. Please contact George T. Allen at 703-358-1825 or George_T_Allen@fws.gov if you have questions.
